Shock of the morning

This morning it happened.....I walked through the hallway in my parents house.....heard the budgies (birds) chatting as usual in their cage. This annoying sound that sometimes gets completely unnoticed but is louder than the sound next to a motorway if you're tired. Even to the extent that my brother refuses to have them in his room these days (hence they have been deported to the hallway). But this morning it sounded even louder.....like my parents all of a sudden had the latest coolest surround system (they don't). And then I see it, the door in the cage is open, and it is a surround system because the second bird is sitting at the top of the curtains....

Now, I think only 10 seconds passed. But these 10 seconds were the longest so far during this day. I was able to imagine my whole day during these seconds - how I tried to catch the bird to get it back into it's cage, how I failed, how I tried to reach my brother who was also elsewhere and how he would never answer the phone at 6 am in the morning. How I probably had to stay at home with my daughter the whole day until my parents came home to help me...What.A.Disaster!

After the 10 seconds had passed the bird flew to the cage and I could easily (but quickly and with great concentration as I thought this would be my only chance) grab it, put it in the cage again and lock the door in the cage.

Pew! That's when I realized.....my daughter is in collusion with the birds and is probably the one who opened the door.....
